Continuing Professional Development Section

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a holistic multidimensional approach to lifelong learning. It consists of a broad spectrum of continued learning, which does not end upon graduation or training but continues throughout one’s professional career. It is a fundamental mechanism through which high quality patient care is identified, maintained and developed by Health Practitioners. CPD serves several objectives for the registrants and the public. For the registrants, CPD maintains and advances their professional standards, enhances the credibility of their profession, enable them to undertake different roles within or outside their organization and enhance their professionalism in a wider context than one specific practice. For the public, CPD ensures the maintenance of effective and competent health services, build public confidence in the health care system and reduces cases of professional malpractice. The essence of CPD is to enhance the educational needs of the practitioners that directly contribute to the quality of health care service they provide. Overall a good CPD system assures the delivery of good quality care and safe health service provision that the public trusts. Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) is the regulatory body responsible for promoting, regulating and accrediting CPD activities for Health Care Practitioners in the Sultanate of Oman. OMSB fulfills such responsibility through its CPD Section (OMSB-CPD). OMSB-CPD Section mission is to enable Health Care Practitioners to plan and deliver relevant and effective CPD activities at international standards to enhance their knowledge, skills and attitudes to enhance the overall health care outcomes. This is achieved through the development, accreditation, research, implementation and evaluation of educational standards.
