Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) is the Sponsoring Institution that oversees Graduate Medical Education (GME) in Oman. OMSB and its GME Programs, are committed to provide physicians with the opportunity to develop clinical and professional competence under careful supervision and guidance of the faculty. We work to ensure provision of a training environment necessary to the development of future leaders in medicine. OMSB and its participating sites provide graduate medical education and training that assist residents’ professional, ethical and personal development to be able to delivery safe patient care for a healthier and happier community.
The Residents’ clinical training takes place in six major participating sites and other affiliated training centers. These include Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH), Royal Hospital (RH), Armed Forces Hospital (AFH), Khoula Hospital (KH), Al Nahdah Hospital (ANH), Al Massara Hospital (AMH), Ministry of Health - Health Centers, Sohar Hospital, Nizwa Hospital, Royal Oman Police Hospital, Central Public Health Laboratory, Department of Blood Services (Central Blood Bank Section), Sultan Qaboos Hospital Salalah, Ibra Hospital, Muscat Eye Laser Center, and a few international training centers.
OMSB’s Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) together with the Postgraduate Medical Education Committees (PGMEC) at various training sites, Participating Sites, Program Education Committees, and teaching faculty, are responsible for ensuring that the necessary education resources are made available to support all GME training programs.

The OMSB GME Department and GMEC monitor the delivery of quality graduate medical education, supervision, and administration of OMSB Residency Programs. We ensure that OMSB and the programs adhere to local and international Institutional, Foundational and Advanced Specialty Requirements. The GME Department acts as a liaison between OMSB, participating sites and ACGME-I and facilitates enhancing the quality of the learning environment for resident and support innovation in the delivery of GME. We also provide administrative support and professional development for program directors, faculty, residents, program administrators and related committees.
