Oral and Maxillo-Facial Surgery


To qualify competent, skillful and knowledgeable oral and maxillofacial surgeons who are capable of functioning independently providing optimal and ethical patient centered care with lifelong commitment to continue reflective learning and research development.

To excel regionally and internationally as a prestigious OMFS residency program utilizing contemporary techniques, a competency and an evidence-based curriculum and commitment towards continued professional development and research that nurture skilled and ethical Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons who fulfill patients and community expectations.

The main objective of the OMSB OMFS Program is to train and graduate competent and knowledgeable oral and maxillofacial surgeons, capable of providing optimal and ethical patient centered care independently.
The trainee should:
Achieve sound knowledge in the principles of oral and maxillofacial examination
Be able to take a sound and complete patient history and perform a physical examination related to oral and maxillofacial surgery
Be able to establish comprehensive differential diagnoses
Recognize emergency situations and manage them effectively
Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and perform surgical operations in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery
Achieve a sound knowledge of research
Be able to effectively communicate and facilitate the doctor patient relationship and colleagues in dynamic exchange.
Be able to manage information and records in sustainable practice and making decision about allocating resources and contributing to the effectiveness of the health care system.
Be able to demonstrate a lifelong commitment to reflective learning as well as creation and disseminating and translating knowledge in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Demonstrate ethical and moral standards committed to the well-being of individual and society with professionally led regulations and high personal standing of behavior.
Responsibly use their expertise and influence to advance the health and wellbeing of individual patients, communities and population.
Effectively work within health care team to achieved optimal patient care and effectively work with other professionals in the health care’s system.

Minimum Requirements for Admission

Hold a Board recognized primary qualification in dentistry (BDS, DDS, DMD or equivalent degree).

Have a minimum 24 months of experience.

Hold a Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS)* or equivalent.

He/she must be of good conduct & medically fit for the specialty.

Pass the admission examination and/or an interview.

Sign an agreement that he/she will abide by all rules and regulations of the training program and the affiliated institutions.

Be available full-time for the training program.

Be less than 32 years of age as on the 30th of September of the joining year.

*The basic biomedical and dental sciences at an advanced level beyond that of the under-graduate dental curriculum are covered and ensured by passing the MFDS exams.

R1 - Fulfill all  the Mandatory Requirements as per the approved curriculum 
R2 - Pass the OMSB part 1 Exam
R3 - Fulfill all  the Mandatory Requirements with approved research manuscript 
R4 – Fulfill all  the Mandatory Requirements as per the approved curriculum
